The group discussed different ideas that represent them, their country and their values. They decided Kowhaiwhai designs would represent this well. They then decided to paint the penguin its natural colours of black and white. The border where the two colours meet is marked by Kowhaiwhai designs. The group decided that they would research positive messages that could be placed on the black parts of the penguin. These are painted in different designs and created in 3D by gluing on magnetic letters.
The white parts of the penguins are covered in images of the local environment around Rangiora where our school is located. This is done in mixed media, paint, and photos.
