We are so excited to announce that the Pop Up Penguins art trail is now installed across Christchurch city and beyond!
120 penguins, sponsored by 52 companies, decorated by 46 artists and 65 schools are now on display for all to see. We want to give a big shout out to the Fulton Hogan team who worked long hours over the weekend to install all the outside penguins, and volunteers from Beca and Stantec who installed the indoor large penguins and the school penguins.
There are a few ways to experience the trail. You can pick up a trail map from your nearest library or Harcourts office. You can download the ‘Pop Up Penguins 2020’ app from either the App Store or Google Play. You can walk, run or bicycle round. You can follow the trail with family and friends. You can go by day or by night.
The penguin art trail will be out for nine weeks in total, officially ending on Sunday 31st January 2021. We will then bring the penguins in to be touched up by the artists and made ready to go on display altogether at the Air Force Museum on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February 2021.
Finally, the little penguins will be returned to schools and the large ones will be sold at auction to raise money for Cholmondeley Children’s Centre. The auction will also be held at the Air Force Museum on Tuesday 16th February 2021. Tickets will go on sale soon.
