Where is IKEA Auckland?
IKEA Auckland is at 10 Clemow Drive, Mount Wellington, tucked into the Sylvia Park precinct. It’s New Zealand’s first full-size IKEA store, and at roughly 34,000 square metres, it’s bigger than most of the stores across the Tasman.
Driving in, you’ll come off the Southern Motorway via Mount Wellington Highway or the South-Eastern Highway. If you’d rather skip the traffic altogether, the Eastern Line train is genuinely the easier option – it’s about 19 minutes from Waitemata Station to Sylvia Park, and you’ll walk straight into the centre. A few Auckland Transport bus routes also run along Mt Wellington Highway and Carbine Road if the train doesn’t suit.
Opening hours
IKEA Auckland’s main store is currently open 9.30am to 8pm, seven days a week. The restaurant closes earlier at 7.30pm, the Bistro runs 10am to 8pm, and the Swedish Food Market follows the main store hours. Check the official IKEA Sylvia Park page before you go, because holiday hours can change.
If you can, avoid weekends – Saturday and Sunday afternoons get properly busy. Locals reckon the sweet spot is 30 to 60 minutes after opening on a weekday, when the queues at the checkout haven’t built up yet and you can actually enjoy wandering the show rooms instead of shuffling through them.
Parking
There’s free parking on-site for up to four hours, with undercover bays, extra-wide family and accessible spaces near the entrance, motorbike parking, and EV chargers. One thing to watch: there’s a 2.1m height restriction in the main car park, so if you’re in a van, ute, or towing a trailer, you’ll need the overflow car park next door.
Every IKEA trolley has to stay within the store and car park – no taking them home, tempting as it might be on a big shop day.
What’s actually inside
You’re looking at over 7,500 products across styled room-sets, from kids’ bedrooms to tiny-apartment living rooms, plus the usual maze of a showroom that somehow always takes longer than you planned. The store runs across two levels, and it’s worth downloading the IKEA app before you go – it helps you navigate the layout and find exactly where to pick up your flat-pack items downstairs, rather than doing a lap of the whole warehouse. Food at IKEA Auckland

There are three separate food spots: the Swedish Bistro near the exit for the quick grab-and-go stuff (hot dogs, soft serve), the full Swedish Restaurant for meatballs, salmon, and the famous cinnamon buns, and the Swedish Food Market at the end, where you can buy the frozen meatballs and lingonberry jam to take home.
IKEA Family members get a free kids’ meal with any adult main on Tuesdays from 11am – handy if you’re planning a lunch stop around your visit.
Going with the kids
IKEA Auckland has the basics sorted for a family visit: breastfeeding facilities, baby change rooms, and extra-wide family parking near the entrance. There’s also Smaland, IKEA’s free supervised play area for kids aged 3 to 8 who are toilet-trained, giving you 30 minutes to shop in peace. IKEA Family members get an extra 30 minutes on weekdays. Smaland’s current hours are 11am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 6pm Saturday and Sunday.
