Justine Ottey is a local artist with a strong affinity for the New Zealand landscape.
Rocky is inspired by the penguins transition from the sea to the rocky shoreline around Banks Peninsula. This area is home to Canterbury’s own endangered White-Flippered penguin and many aquatic creatures, big and small. Rocky shimmers with the colour of the ocean, but look closer and discover some of the hidden gems found both in the tidal zone and the deeper ocean.
Justine has worked in a number of Christchurch schools creating many mural projects. She also collaborated with the students of Cholmondeley Children’s Centre on their penguin Huey. Pop up Penguins is her third Wild in Art project.
Justine created the Rocky penguin.
