Ina Johann uses a range of media in her process-based practice. From photography, painting and drawing to video and light to create her works and installations.
Johann has a strong drawing practice – a form of personal mapping and navigation. Drawing acts as a gauge – to survey, observe, fragment, un-peel and re-construct layers of meaning in search for a new physicality/reality. She is interested in the notion of home, belonging and our perception of place, individually and collectively.
Her practice is inclusive of collaborating with other creatives over the past 20 years. Spanning 12 + years, Edwards + Johann is her most recent and long-time collaboration. Johann has been a finalist in all major New Zealand Art Awards and her work is held in public and private collections nationally and internationally.
Ina created the Brushy Slushy penguin.
