Schools across Canterbury are invited to sign up to the Pop Up Penguins Learning Programme.
This is an opportunity for schools to be involved in Christchurch’s second citywide public art trail, this time with a penguin theme.
Each school registered to the learning programme will receive a little (100cm) penguin sculpture to decorate. This penguin will be displayed in a group with fellow school penguins in venues across the city during the Pop Up Penguin trail later this year.
To support the research and design process, schools will be given a resource pack full of ideas and information about the sculpture and themes relating to the project. We are delighted to announce that we have a team of fantastic partner supporting the Learning Programme and sharing their knowledge and expertise with the schools. These are:
- International Antarctic Centre
- Antarctica New Zealand
- Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs
- Gateway Antarctica
- College of Education, Health and Human Development, at the University of Canterbury
Added to inputting into the resource pack our Learning Programme Partners are going to be delivering the sculptures to the schools and have offered to give talks to the children to help them get inspired and ready to design.
Schools that would like to have their own sculpture to decorate should visit the Learning Programme page.
